We do not die because we have to die, we die because one day, and not so long ago, our consciousness was forced to deem it necessary. Antonin Artaud

This memorial website was created to remember our dearest George Chapman Wall IV.

George Chapman Wall IV was born August 3, 1975, at Seymour-Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina.  His mother originally wanted to name him Nicholas Sean Wall (Nicky), but after being outvoted, the precedent was set, and the NEXT George - George Chapman Wall IV, to be known as Little George, was to be his name.  He was an adorable baby and the cutest toddler with long, beautiful blond springboard curls.  Even at that age, he loved to be dressed in his tiny little cowboy boots, teeny little blue jeans, all accompanied by his toy six- shooter pistols on each hip of his belt. Often people would mistake him for a girl, when not in cowboy gear because he was so pretty, and his curls were just “darling”.  It was soon after one of these episodes, his dad decided to get him a haircut. People then definitely knew he was indeed a boy.  He was precocious, mischievous, stubborn, and rough-n-tumble. He was equally the sweetest, kindest, most loving soul. He loved hugs and kisses and to cuddle up to his blanket, twirling his hair to sleep. He was instantly loved and he and his sister, DeeAnn, had a very close bond. She assumed a parental role with him and kept him close and safe.

At the age of three George and his family were on their way to Okinawa, Japan, as his dad had received orders in his job as Air Force pilot to report to Okinawa.  This was a traumatic time for George as many of his toys didn’t make the weight restricted shipment.  His favorite blankie was lost in the move and he sadly stared up uttering ‘We don’t have a home anymore’. He loved his superheroes even at this young age, one of them being the “Hulk.”  He had a stretchy Hulk figure which he dearly loved.  He also sang along with “Sha Na Na” and had his own little “Chips” motorcycle and helmet (and, of course gloves).  He made friends with the Japanese kids in the off-base housing where he and his family lived for a year and half.  They would stand outside the window and ask in Japanese if Georgie could come out to play.   His sister would take him down the road to a little Mama-san store, where he reveled at the array of goodies. It was at this time that Elisha Batacal came to live with us as our babysitter, housekeeper, cook – and beloved family member.  George and DeeAnn came to love Elisha in the 3.5 years she lived with us and took care of them while their mother worked at the Navy hospital and dad flying KC-135s for the Air Force.  When the family moved on base, George made new friends – one of them being a little girl about his age whom he swore he was going to marry.  (That idea ceased when they saw each other again at about the age of 12 in Hawaii)

After Okinawa, the family moved in with Big George’s folks (Meme and Granddaddy) in Lubbock, Texas, for about 6 months and then on to Alexandria-Pineville, Louisiana, where they would live from 1983-1986.  George and the little boy next door, Paul, became best friends.  They were together constantly – not always sure productively.  There were tales of “tipping cows” and other such mischievous adventures.  But, George and his family saw his sister graduate from High School there and he enjoyed living semi-rurally and all the freedom to roam that entailed. He and Paul also loved to ‘fish’ from the pond next door, and most summer days wouldn’t be seen again ‘til evening.

After Louisiana, the family moved in 1986 (George was 11) to Oahu, Hawaii.  George had lots of off-base friends during the year and half the family lived in Aiea, Hawaii, and he even gave up his bedroom for his sister when she joined the family so she would have a nicer room.  Moving on Wheeler AFB gave George his own room with bath (very private) from which he would, unbeknown to his Mom and Dad, sneak out at night by climbing through his window to be with his friends.  It is believed George kissed a girl, Dolly, for the first time on one of these nighttime adventures.  George loved Hawaii.  He played on the football team, wore his surfer shorts and flip flops, and had many many friends.

The family left Hawaii upon Big George’s retirement in 1989 and went back to his parents’ hometown, Tyler, Texas.  Big George got a job offer to work on a contract in Saudi Arabia.  Jeff, George’s brother-in-law, and DeeAnn were to attend Tyler Junior College and then Texas University at Tyler and get their Bachelor’s degrees.  Aleta was to join Big George in Saudi Arabia.  And, Little George was to join his parents when he brought his grades up to the level required to go to Saudi Arabia.  So, he started school in Tyler.  George, DeeAnn, and Jeff were living in their parents’ house which was right next door to Meme and Granddaddy Wall.  George made lots of friends and had many adventures.

The first summer his parents were in Saudi Arabia, George came there for the summer – June through August 1990.  In August, when Saddam Hussein came close in his invasion of the surrounding countries of coming into Saudi Arabia.  The company Big George was working for sent in planes to evacuate the families.  And, George and his Mom were evacuated out and spent the next year back in Tyler, Texas, with DeeAnn and Jeff in the house at 405 Cypress Circle.

When the decision came for George to go to Saudi with his Mom or stay in Tyler, he chose staying in Tyler, wherein DeeAnn and Jeff became his legal guardians full-time.  Jeff and DeeAnn were at this time 21, and George was 14. His dad bought him a brand new truck when George was 16 years old (1991), and George was thrilled to have his own “wheels.”  He was now going to Robert E. Lee where he met many of the great friends he still has today.  One of his early friends was Greg Brooks.  He and Greg were inseparable and had some great times together from Junior High on.

When George was 17, one of his friends, Scott, and George decided to make a trip to Oklahoma. George now had a 1983 Cadillac. On their return trip, it was late at night, Scott was driving and fell asleep at the wheel, and they wound up hitting a bridge support just outside of Denton, TX.  Scott died that night, but George miraculously survived.  The only part of the car not totally demolished was right where George was reclining in the passenger seat.  God let him live for a purpose – perhaps to become the great person, son and friend he became.  George’s survival was touch and go, but he had the will to get through it.  Every bone in his face was broken, his leg had multiple fractures.  The plastic surgeon in Dallas repaired his face from a driver’s license photo profile and did the repair with metal plates from the inside so he had no scarring on his face.  He had to have a metal rod put in his leg which gave him some arthritis pain in later years, but he and his sister worked hard in physical therapy so he wouldn’t have a limp.  His recovery was miraculous – partially due to the many many friends who visited him during his recovery time – many of whom entered his “garage converted” bedroom through the windows.  At times there were up to 20+ teenagers camped out in his bedroom while he recovered.

In 1993 George’s Mom came home from Saudi Arabia and the whole family moved to Navarre, Florida, where George’s folks had bought property in 1991.  George moved with the family the weekend of July 4, 1993, but he decided immediately that he wanted to be back with his friends in Tyler, Texas.  So, he got in his truck (it was 4th of July weekend in the panhandle of Florida where thousands of kids come for spring break on the beach) and left his family in Florida and returned to Tyler to his friends.  He stayed with different friends and their families – one of whom was Greg Brooks.  He became extremely close to the Brooks’, and they took very good care of him while he lived with them.

George did come back to Florida but stayed only a short time.  On the spur of the moment, he and Shanda Hockman who were on the rebound from broken relationships decided to get married.  They stayed together only a short time and then got a divorce.  Once back in Tyler, George hooked back up with his many friends, Rachael, Greg, Jessica and so many others.

George and Jessica were good friends first and started dating when he was 22 years old. George asked Jessica to marry him and they were married in a formal ceremony in Tyler.  They lived on Lake Palestine for a short while, then with Jessica’s family in a large house in Lufkin, TX for a while.  George worked with Jessica’s father, selling mobile homes at which he was quite good – customers loved him.

In 2002, George and Jessica moved to California and lived with George’s mom in Oxnard, California, and then in Filmore, California, for about a year and half.  They both loved California, but they missed Tyler and their friends.  George had made some great friends in California, Steve and Marchian became like brothers.  Steve and George met in bartending school and became fast friends thereafter.  George became good friends with the across the street neighbors in Oxnard and shared many conversations with his friend, Tito Anthony.  He even bought Tito’s Mercedes and enjoyed driving around California in his older but luxurious car.

In 2003, George and Jessica decided to move back to Texas into the house at 405 Cypress Circle.  George started his construction business with Greg Brooks as his partner and they did quite well until the economy turned around.  George’s Meme moved back into the house next door (she had moved to Florida to be close to family) and George, Jessica, and his sister DeeAnn took care of her until her death in 2005.  Jessica worked with her cousin doing custom painting as the “Unfauxgettable Girls.”  George started  two successful businesses, “Wall to Wall Construction” and “The Deckheads”.

In January of 2005 George lost his beloved Meme – they had been very close.  George even saved his Meme’s life after she fell into her backyard pool and George rescued her on one of his summer trips. For a while in 2006, George and Jessica left Tyler to live with George’s dad in Navarre, Florida.  They returned to Texas in 2007. Jessica joined the Army to become a nurse, and George followed her to Georgia, and then on to San Antonio, TX.  Their household goods had just arrived and George had to go to a Doctor’s appointment in Tyler. He had plans to reunite with many of his old friends on that trip. He was unfortunately killed in a motorcycle accident, along with his friend Kenny on June 29, 2009. His headstone sits at the feet of his Meme and Granddaddy. His ashes to be scattered by his parents, sister, brother-in-law, and wife in Hawaii, Thanksgiving 2009.

You will live forever in our memories and hearts.
